Commedia Dell’Arte is a form of theatre first performed in
the streets of Italy in the 15th century. It’s popularity was
contagious spreading throughout Europe, Eastern Bloc countries and
across the Channel to England where it was modified into
“Punch and Judy” puppet theatre. Commedia troupes
are carrying on the tradition in the 21st Century.
